Ages 12-19: Ableism is defined by the Center
for Disability Rights as, "A set of beliefs or
practices that devalue and discriminate against
people with physical, intellectual, or psychiatric
disabilities and often rests on the assumption
that disabled people need to be 'fixed' in one
form or the other." In this half-day, youth-led
workshop, the CANDLES Holocaust Museum
Youth Board will demonstrate how ableism
impacts individuals using real-life experiences
from members of the Vigo County community
and will discuss what individuals can do to
address the issue.
