Accession Number: 851202
Donor: Vigo County Historical Society

and one regular volume (Vol. 1)

Content and Scope of Collection

This collection documents the history of the Rose Orphan Home from its inception to its last stages as a home for the elderly. Arranged roughly in chronological order, the collection reflects five phases of the organization: initial planning and development of the institution (1874-1884); the Rose Orphan Home (from its opening on September 3, 1884 to 1930); the Chauncey Rose School (1930-1949); the Chauncey Rose Home (for the elderly, 1950-1959); the Chauncey Rose Home (under the management of the Diocese of Indianapolis, 1959-1965).

The three document cases contain original letters, pamphlets and business records of the Board of Managers and the administration. The nine bound volumes are the copied records of the Board of Managers and include board minutes and resolutions, correspondence, and annual reports.
