Content and Scope of Collection
The committee was organized as the Drug Abuse Committee of the Vigo County Coordinating Council in the spring of 1971. Later, it became affiliated with Region 7 Mental Health and Mental Retardation Planning.
The committee supported and encouraged agencies giving direct service to people having drug problems. It promoted communication between governmental units and social agencies. Most of its educational work was with adults in an informal setting.
After five years of activity the Vigo County Addictions Committee phased itself out, since community agencies had absorbed many of their activities.
The papers in this collection constitute a complete record of the origins, meetings and activities of the committee. The scrapbook was created by the Vigo County Public Library to record its role in one of the committee's major projects, the mounting of Drug Abuse Prevention Week, October 19-26, 1974.
