Content and Scope of Collection

In 1916 Robert Scovell was a special assistant to the American ambassador in Petrograd, Russia. He returned to the United States in June 1917. This collection contains letters from his mother, Joanna Scovell, who lived in Terre Haute during this period; postcards and Christmas cards from family and friends; notes, letters, and telegrams from colleagues in Russia. Biographical material has been added to the collection. Related materials may be found in the genealogy surname files in Special Collections.
