Content and Scope of Collection
This collection contains a praecipe written by Abraham Lincoln and filed in the circuit court of Sangamon County, Illinois, July 16, 1841. At the time, Lincoln was an attorney and partner with Stephen T. Logan in Illinois. A transcript of this document is filed with the collection inventory and is available online through the Community Archives webpage.
The original document had been framed and hung in the library in 1915. The frame has been removed and the document is now preserved in the Community Archives. The top of the document has been glued to a letter by Jesse W. Weik indicating that the Lincoln praecipe is a gift to Max Ehrmann. A printed portrait of an unidentified man was found behind the framed document and is stored with the collection.
