Gifts, Bequests, and Trusts
The Vigo County Public Library may receive gifts, donations, endowments, bequests, and trusts. Restricted gifts are those to which the donor has defined specific terms, conditions, and purposes. Non-restricted gifts are those to which the donor has not specified terms, conditions, or purposes.
The Vigo County Public Library Board of Trustees reserves the right to accept or reject any gift, donation, endowment, bequest, or trust. According to Indiana State Board of Accounts rules and regulations, gift monies (funds), monetary donations, endowments, bequests, or trusts may be expended without respect to budgeting or appropriation guidelines. If gift funds are restricted funds, they must be expended according to the donor's conditions. If gift funds are non-restricted, they may be expended by authorization of the VCPL Board of Trustees within the scope of its statutory authority.
Donation of Library Materials: The Vigo County Public Library welcomes gifts of print and non-print materials from individuals and groups. Gift materials will be evaluated with the same criteria used for purchasing and acquiring library materials. Gift materials judged not suitable to be added to the library collection will be submitted to the Friends of the Vigo County Public Library to be used for use in book sales, as gifts to other libraries, or to be recycled.
Direct Monetary Donations: The VCPL welcomes direct monetary donations for the Main Library and the four branch facilities. These funds may be used for library materials, library furniture or equipment, or to sponsor library programs.
Memorial Contributions: The VCPL may receive gifts in memory of or in honor of a loved one or friend. Contributions may be made to the general gift fund or be used to purchase library materials. Staff will select the library materials and a commemorative plate will be placed in the VCPL memory book housed in the VCPL Main Library Lobby.
Vigo County Public Library Endowment Fund: The Vigo County Public Library is a member of the Wabash Valley Community Foundation, Inc.. Annual income from the Foundation will be used to fund library programs, library services, and or to purchase library materials. A gift to the Vigo County Public Library’s Endowment fund is a gift in perpetuity to support library services and programs.
Friends of the Vigo County Public Library: Direct donations may be submitted to the Friends of the Vigo County Public Library to support Friends’ activities, services, and programs. The Friends of the Vigo County Public Library is a 501 (c) 3 organization.
